Contraception: counselling on non-hormone based options. Converting women from synthetic hormones to bio-identical options.

PMS – (premenstrual syndrome) a combination of physical and emotional symptoms that many women experience after ovulation and before their menstrual period, such as mood swings, extreme fatigue, headaches, bloating, insomnia etc.

PMDD – (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) similar to PMS with more severe symptoms that disrupt work or personal relationships. Affects up to 5% of women, many of whom may also experience anxiety or depression.

PPD – post-partum depression is a mood disorder associated with childbirth. It can begin soon after giving birth, as a dramatic drop in hormones in the body may contribute. It is imperative that medical treatment be initiated promptly. Women who experience PMS or have a family history of other members having PMS or post-partum depression have a greater risk of experiencing mood disorders post-partum (post delivery). Symptoms may include extreme sadness, low energy, anxiety, crying episodes, irritability, and withdrawal from engaging with baby. This is a physiological imbalance that impacts emotional and mental well-being. Women generally respond well to skilled professional intervention. These new mothers, often overwhelmed, need the loving support of trusted persons to advocate for them if they are too exhausted or impaired to self advocate.

PCOS – (polycystic ovarian syndrome) a common health problem caused by an imbalance of reproductive hormones. It can be accompanied by high levels of testosterone and/or high levels of insulin rendering treatment as essential to prevent detrimental health issues.

Key symptoms:

  • Irregular or missed menstrual cycles
  • Excess facial or body hair
  • Loss of scalp hair
  • Acne, face and body
  • Weight gain or difficulty losing weight
  • Infertility

Menopause-like symptoms:

  • Hot flashes
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Night sweats
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Mood changes
  • Decreased joy

Post-menopause – defined by the total cessation of menstrual flow for one calendar year or confirmed earlier by lab findings. During this phase there is rapid decline in hormone levels due to ovarian function departing. Most women experience a myriad of symptoms that alter quality of life and accelerate the aging process including the potential development of cardiovascular disease. Heart disease is the leading cause of death globally in both men and women and has been for >15 years (source: WHO “the World Health Organization”).
